Dear Colleagues,

There will be an international conference on breast cancer entitled “Breast Cancer Conference: Current Standards and New Perspectives” on 28-29 October 2016 at Doha Sheraton. The conference is hosted by Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) under the good leadership of Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani. The conference is a forum to promote quality healthcare for breast cancer patients and information on the latest developments on prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment. Expected to attend are experts, lecturers and researchers from the USA, Austria, Canada and the GCC. The conference will be accompanied by a medical exhibition and an educational programme that includes lectures, panel discussions and workshops.

Another important conference in the offing is the First Combined Gulf Cancer Conference on “Awareness Strategy: Reality and Ambition” which would highlight the role and importance of awareness in educating people about cancer. It will be held on 2-3 April 2017 in Kuwait under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ali Saad Al Obaidi, Minister of Health. The Conference plans to highlight the extent and impact of cancer awareness on the general public, present statistics on survival and treatment rates and to review successful awareness models in treating the disease locally, regionally and globally. Invited to attend are oncologists, psychologists, social workers, specialists in health care systems and education, nutrition and the media who all have a role in promoting cancer awareness in our society. More information about this conference will be made available in the First Announcement which will be distributed soon.

After our successful GFFCC Awareness visit to Yemen in 2014, we are embarking on another important awareness campaign called “Awareness Without Borders” to Sudan on November 2016. This campaign will focus on Head & Neck cancer with a team composed of doctors and members of Kuwait’s Ministry of Information, Ministry of Al Awqaf and NGOs. We are also planning to distribute two-hundred thousand awareness booklets produced by Cancer Aware Nation (CAN) Campaign Kuwait. I will be reporting on the outcome of this mission after our visit on November 2016.
