Dear Colleagues,
The 2nd Combined Gulf Cancer Conference: Cancer Screening and Early Detection will be held in Riyadh on March 27-29, 2018 at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre. As our readers would recall, this is the continuation of the 1st Combined Gulf Cancer Conference on Awareness Strategy which was held in Kuwait on April 2017. These series of conferences are the result of the partnership between the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control, the Gulf Health Council, and the Gulf Center for Cancer Control and Prevention to encourage the participation of oncologists, specialists, social workers and health care workers in the Gulf region to share and collaborate their work. We hope this conference will be another success!

Another important conference on our schedule is the International Conference on Genitourinary & Gynecological Cancers: Present Approaches which will be held in Kuwait on April 14-16, 2018. This conference is organized by the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, and as Conference Chairman, I am encouraging oncologists and medical practitioners of these specialties to participate and submit their study abstracts on the topics covered by this conference. The details of the conference can be found at the GFFCC website and at the Scientific Events page located at the latter pages of this journal.

We are currently updating the coverage of the GJO with regards to the SJR index of journal rankings. Although the GJO continues to increase its ranking (H7) as on 2016, the official coverage remains at 2007-2012 because some articles are still “in-data-review” from Medline. This means that SJR coverage is based on Medline’s completed review of the journal’s articles (which remains incomplete). Upon our request to resolve our status, SJR agreed to do a “direct coverage” of the GJO after a “mandatory review process” of the journal’s articles. In the meantime, we have to wait until SJR has completed the review process. We are writing this for the information of authors who have used or plan to use the GJO’s SJR credentials for their academic or employment applications.
Best regards,
Dr. Khaled Al Saleh
