Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that we are in the process of establishing the Gulf Research Cancer Centre in our Gulf region. In the recent meeting with experts includes from Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and GFFCC proposed this centre with the main purpose to work as a referral center for cancer research in the region. The meeting members has expressed their interest to collaborate in this important project and centre’s major work can be solely focused on ‘Basic Sciences and Clinical Studies’. I have highlighted on the need to initiate a Situational Analysis on Cancer Research in the gulf region to collect the data needed to analyze each country's capabilities & willingness to participate. Dr. Elisabete Weiderpass (director of IARC) had also stated that a holistic situational analysis in the region can identify each country’s areas of focus & interests when it comes to cancer research. We are happy to receive any feedback and opinion as the proposed project will be later presented to Ruler of Sharjah in a side event meeting during the 5th Combined Gulf Cancer Conference (5th CGCC) on the 22nd November 2022 at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre (JRCC) – Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

We had successfully celebrated the 7th Gulf Awareness Week: Gulf Week for Cancer Awareness, 1-7 February 2022. GCC countries and Yemen successfully participated in this Week, held under the slogan "Your health is your fitness" under the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control in co-operation with Gulf Centre for Cancer Control and Prevention. The gulf week included hundreds of programmes, activities, awareness campaigns, lectures, distributing brochures, training courses, workshops, and unifies media messages launched in all social media platforms lights up many of the countries landmarks in purple during the celebration of the Gulf Awareness Week.
