Dear Colleagues,
A meeting was assembled on November 29, 2023, at the Ministry of Health headquarters to discuss the strategy proposal for the Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance in the State of Kuwait. I attended the meeting along with key members from the Ministry of Health (MOH), government officials, representatives from the NCD alliance, and relevant NGOs in the related field. The meeting aimed to discuss the proposed strategy for the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Alliance in Kuwait and address the pressing issue of NCDs, outlining a comprehensive strategy involving various sectors and international collaborations. The meeting concluded with key recommendations, (i) Establishment of a national NCD Alliance, led by Dr. Homoud Al-Zaabi, with regional oversight. (ii) Implementation of the approved NCD strategy by the Ministry of Health. (iii) Creation of a registry for NCD-focused NGOs. (iv) Development of a long-term plan for alliance performance indicators (v) Exploration of budgetary support from private entities to alleviate the financial burden on NGO programs. Participants expressed commitment to collaborative efforts in achieving the outlined goals in addressing NCD challenges in Kuwait.

I'm excited to announce the 9th Annual Gulf Awareness Week for Cancer, scheduled from February 1st to 7th, 2024. Originating in 2016, this collaborative effort between the Gulf Centre for Cancer Control and Prevention (GCCCP) and the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control (GFFCC) emphasizes the "40x40" campaign, focusing on a 40% reduction in cancer risk through awareness and a 40% increase in cure rates with early detection. As we enter the 9th year of this impactful awareness week, we invite everyone to actively engage and support local cancer associations' programs. The partnership between government, NGOs, and charities remains integral to the campaign's success. Together, we aim to make a significant impact on cancer prevention and early detection in the Gulf region in 2024.
