Dear Colleagues,

During the ninth Gulf Week for Cancer Awareness, over 2,000 events were held across GCC countries, resulting in a significant increase in cancer awareness levels. I noted the reduction in the belief that cancer is incurable and the rise in recognition of early detection's importance. The Al-Ahsa Cancer Foundation (Tafaul) from Saudi Arabia was honored with the Excellence Award for their outstanding efforts in Gulf Week for Cancer Awareness 2024. The program included diverse activities reaching all segments of society, with a focus on social media and various media platforms. Dr. Fouad Al-Jaghiman highlighted Tafaul's community initiatives, including lectures, exhibitions, and early detection campaigns, with a commitment to promoting cancer prevention and patient support. The GFFCC aims to be a global model in cancer prevention and patient care through innovation, community partnership, and institutional excellence.

During the BEST of ASTRO Gulf event in Dubai on April 26, 2024, I had a meeting with members of the Gulf Oncology Society, and the meeting yielded fruitful outcomes. The young Gulf doctors exhibited keen enthusiasm for assuming leadership roles within the group, accepting the recommendations presented to them. They are eager to organize conferences, promote scientific research, facilitate interconnections among Gulf doctors, review and develop Gulf guidelines, and establish a network for medical professionals. Despite recognizing the presence of obstacles, including internal challenges within the medical community, they remain steadfast in their commitment. Through persistent efforts, they volunteer their time and expertise, determined to serve their respective countries through impactful initiatives.

Best regards,

Dr. Khaled Ahmed Al Saleh
